Meet Shawn
The work didn’t start
on a stage.
More than two decades helping leaders navigate uncertainty — and one question that changes everything: What are you willing to end?

About Shawn
For leaders who know something has to end before something better can begin.
Shawn Ellis has spent more than two decades helping leaders and organizations navigate change — through growth, pressure, and moments where the path forward isn’t clear.
But the work he teaches didn’t start with a framework.
It started with a question he couldn’t answer at the time: Why did everything change… when nothing about the strategy did?
He knows what organizations need from a keynote — and he built Radical Adaptability to deliver it. A framework that’s measurable, a story that’s earned, and tools audiences use the same week.
The Story Behind the Work
There was a year when everything broke.
A business collapse that should have ended things. The kind of year where you’re not sure what you’re rebuilding — the company, or yourself. And then, somehow, the best year the business had ever seen.
He couldn’t explain it at first. That’s what led him to study the decisions made in the middle of that moment — the choices that had actually shifted something, where panic gave way to something else, where survival stopped being the goal and something bigger took its place.
“Most of my real lessons didn’t come from a stage or a strategy. They came from leading a business through constant change — and raising a son who taught me that growth rarely looks the way you planned.”
Parenting a neurodivergent child has a way of clarifying what actually matters. It strips the script. It asks you, repeatedly and without apology, to choose who you’re going to be when nothing is going the way you expected. That question — not as a theory, but as a daily practice — is at the heart of everything Shawn teaches.
The turnaround didn’t come from a better strategy. It came from letting go of the wrong one. The grip loosened. The fight with the situation ended. And somehow, in that space, things began to move.
Later that year, Shawn went skydiving. When he jumped, he didn’t fall — he was caught. Held up by a blanket of air he couldn’t see and couldn’t control. This is what it feels like to stop fighting what is, and trust what’s next.
That moment didn’t create the framework. But it named something that had already happened.
Radical Adaptability didn’t start as a keynote. It started as a reckoning. The 5 Choices weren’t invented in a research lab. They were identified in the aftermath of real endings — and refined across hundreds of audiences who recognized themselves in the story.
“Default is not destiny.” That’s not a tagline. It’s the thing Shawn had to learn to believe about his own life before he could teach it to anyone else.
What Shawn Believes
The principles behind every
choice he makes on stage.
These aren’t talking points. They’re the convictions that shape how Shawn builds every keynote — and why audiences leave differently than they arrived.
I.
Endings are where breakthroughs live.
Every breakthrough Shawn has witnessed — personal and organizational — happened on the other side of an ending someone was willing to choose. The work is learning to stop waiting to be forced.
II.
Default is not destiny.
People and organizations get stuck in survival patterns — not because they lack ability, but because no one has helped them see the pattern clearly enough to choose something different.
III.
Growth is a choice, not a condition.
You don’t have to wait for the right circumstances. Radical Adaptability is the practice of becoming your best in the moment you’re in — not the one you wish you were in.
IV.
The audience is always the hero.
Shawn’s job on stage is not to impress — it’s to illuminate. Every story, every framework, every tool exists to serve the people in the room, not to celebrate the speaker.
V.
Be that which you seek.
The fifth choice — Community — isn’t about networking. It’s about the kind of person you choose to be in relationship to others. You don’t find the environment you need. You become it.
VI.
Measurement matters.
Inspiration that can’t be verified is just entertainment. Every Shawn Ellis engagement includes a live opt-in readiness assessment — because if the shift is real, it should be measurable.
The Journey
More than two decades of learning what actually changes people.
Before he ever stepped onto a stage as a speaker, Shawn spent more than two decades building a business, raising a family, and watching from close range as leaders and organizations navigated change in real time.
He saw what moved people. He saw what didn’t. He saw the gap between a standing ovation and an actual shift in how a team operates on Monday morning.
Radical Adaptability was built to close that gap.
He’s also the author of Mastering the Moments and the forthcoming business fable Choose Your Ending™ — a dual-path story built around the same question his keynote asks: what are you willing to end?
The Business Years
Over two decades leading a business through every kind of change — growth, collapse, reinvention. The laboratory where the framework was built.
The Breakdown & The Rebuild
Bankruptcy. And then — against the odds — the best year the business had ever seen. The space between those two moments became the keynote.
The Real Classroom
Raising a neurodivergent son. Learning, repeatedly, to choose who you’re going to be when nothing goes to plan.
Mastering the Moments — Published
The first book. The newsletter. The proof that the message resonates beyond the stage.
Choose Your Ending™ — Coming Soon
The business fable. A dual-path story about the one question that changes everything: what are you willing to end?
A Note for Event Planners & Bureau Partners
He understands your world — because he’s spent decades in it.
Shawn knows what a bureau partner needs to make a confident recommendation. He knows what an audience needs to leave differently than they arrived. And he built his entire engagement model around making both of those things easier.
